New bell system brings options to students

A new sound is flooding the hallways at the start and end of classes each day. Recently, the bells underwent a change, switching from an old analog style to a modern computerized system.

Although many are surprised by this, Grand Haven High School was not the first in the district to update their system. Lakeshore Middle School and White Pines Intermediate had already put a digital system in place.

Students and staff alike have been commenting on the new bell. Assistant Principal Roberson has heard the compliments along with the complaints and assures that there are many other options.

“Some people like it, some people don’t like it,” Roberson said. “But I’ll tell you this, we can do anything you want. We can program messages, we can program music.”

The bell being used right now is the closest to sounding like the old one, but Roberson explains that the same one will not always be used. Students have the opportunity to be involved in what sound they’d like to hear ushering them to and from classes.

“At some point we’re going to get together and if you want different bells we can change them and make them whatever you want,” Roberson said. “We will be adjusting them, but for now we just wanted something in place for when school started.”
