What happened: The Bucs (2-8) went on the road to face the Grand Rapids Flames Wednesday night. A healthy roster and fresh legs helped the Bucs come away with an astounding 12-0 mercy. Friday the Bucs traveled to compete against Kingsford. A narrow 3-2 defeat proved that it was nothing but a hard fought game. Finding themselves down the Bucs battled back all night but just fell short.

Key contributors: Spring lake freshman Ethan Pennington along with juniors Joey Zelenka and Trey Bledsoe put in positive minutes that paid off for the Bucs.

Key moment: With a couple of first period goals by senior Nick Emerick and  early on in the game against the Grand Rapids Flames helped maintain that intensity for the rest of the game.

Quote: “We have been in some hard fought games that don’t always go our way,” junior Alex Franczek said, “These games bring us closer together as a group, Although many people will doubt us for many reasons, hope is never lost and we continue to battle”

Up next:  The Bucs host undefeated Lowell/Caledonia/South Christian on Wednesday. In the last contest, Grand Haven kept the game close, losing on a last minute goal.

What happened: The Bucs (2-8) traveled to East Kentwood Friday to take on a tough Lowell/Caledonia/South Christian team who leads the league thus far in the season. After trailing 4-0 early on into the game, the Bucs stormed back tying the game up at four a piece. The opposing squad scored a game winner which proved fatal in the defeat of the Bucs, final score 5-4.

Key moment: Scoring three goals in approximately six minutes helped Grand Haven put themselves back into the game.

Key player:  Junior Joey Zelenka led the way for the Bucs, scoring two crucial goals to help spark the potential comeback.

Quote: “Even though we were down four nothing we didn’t give up and we came back to tie the game up,” Zelenka said. “We need to work on getting off to a better start at the beginning of the game so we don’t find ourselves down early in the games.”

Up next: The Bucs travel to Grand Rapids Wednesday to take on the Grand Rapids Flames.

What happened: The Bucs fell to a tough visiting Jenison Wildcats Wednesday night at the Edge Ice Arena. After leading 1-0 early in the first period, Grand Haven fought hard, but the streaky Wildcats stormed back defeating the Bucs 4-2.

Key contributors: Junior Alex Weykamp lead the squad with two assists on goals from junior Trey Bledsoe and freshman Ethan Pennington.

Key moment: Grand Haven got off to a hot start early on, pulling ahead 1-0.

Quote:  “I think that tonight we just couldn’t get things to go our way,” said junior Alex Weykamp, “It’s important not to dwell on the loss, and instead focus on what needs to be done to win the next game”

Up Next: The Bucs travel to Lowell Friday to challenge the Red Arrows in a competitive non-conference game.
