Girls swim heads to states

Abigail Holman, Reporter

What: Swim teams around the state will be competing for the state title.  The girls swim team will compete with five swimmers and eight alternates as they strive to place higher than the other teams. This is the last meet of the swim season and the team is hoping to place well and get in the top 16, according to sophomore Annah Taylor.

When: The state meet will last over a time span of two days.  The prelims will start at 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 and the finals will start at 12 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 19.

In the finals, the top 16 swimmers will return to compete for points for their team.

They said it: “We (the team) are all pretty close,” Taylor said.  “It makes you feel safe with them, and there is definitely lots of positive energy.”

Key Points: Freshman Kathryn Ackerman is only about 5 seconds behind the State Record in the 500 set by 17 time Olympic medalist Allison Schmitt. Ackerman looks to break that record this weekend with Schmitt in attendance.
