Last Thursday, the Boys varsity Basketball team got the 2016-2017 season underway, holding the team’s first official practice and beginning Head Coach Greg Immink’s second year coaching for Grand Haven.

The team has high expectations and its veteran leaders who look to raise their level of success to even greater heights than what the Bucs’ did last year, being co-conference champions of the O.K. Red and District finalists.

Senior forward Zac Holman knows this is his last go and he is ready to lead the team in his last hurrah.

“I’ve been a part of the basketball program all four years and I want to leave a legacy that our senior class was just as good as any other senior classes that have came through Grand Haven.” Holman said.

Holman has had teammates in the past that have left a long lasting impact on him and he hopes to lead like those before him this year, wanting to bringing the team even farther in the postseason.

“I just want to be the best leader possible for the team, I’ll do whatever it takes to get the team a win,” Holman said. “For our team, I really want to win the O.K. Red again and get past Muskegon in Districts.”

Holman already knows and can see that this team has a lot of potential and the team’s hunger and want for more will push them forward this season.

“Guys that are willing to work and run and dive on the floor- the little things, that will make us very special.” Holman said.

Holman isn’t the only one that is ready for the season to begin, Head Coach Greg Immink has been working hard to get the team and the community ready for the opener against Mona Shores on December 9.

“We have a good core of leadership and I’m excited to watch the JV guys from last year and how they gel together,” Immink said. “There is a lot of good potential for this season.”

Immink knows the community is very supportive and wants the whole area to join together and watch this team play this season.

“I encourage students and the rest of the community to come out and check out a game,” Immink said. “They will be proud of the product we put forth this year.”
