What is your position here?

I am a guidance counselor for last names A-D.

How did you get this job?

I am not sure. I taught and Grand Haven now for five years, and prior to that I did outside counseling and special ed teaching. With that whole background, and understanding the population, was helpful to getting this job.

Do you like it so far? If so, why?

I absolutely love it. I love the diverse problems i have. I love that it can be really busy and then slow for a hot second. I can go from college goals to failing a class, it’s very diverse. I love it.

What impact do you hope to make?

I would like to have a door that is open to students. I want it to be an open door for teachers as well.

Tell me about your family.

I have three kids and a husband. We are a very active family, we run and hike and play beach volleyball. I have a third grader, a sixth grader, and a ninth grader. We moved from Holland a few years ago and we just love Grand Haven.

Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?

I would fight the horses, because when i grew up on a farm in Indiana, my favorite place to go was into a big pasture and I would play with 12 to 15 horses. I was never afraid of them, they were always calm. I would go up in trees and lower myself on them and see how long i could stay on.
