Law and Order: Mock Trial Unit

Jack Reus, Sports Editor

What: The Mock trial club will be hosting its first meeting, Monday, November 6 from 2:50 pm to 3:20 pm in room 1105 and is looking for members. The club competes in many trial simulations with other schools from around the state.

What the club is about: Everyone receives the same case statewide and is met with the challenge of preparing for both sides of the case (prosecution and defense). You don’t know what side you will be until you arrive. The case this year is a criminal case and each team will have three attorneys and three witnesses but you are allowed to carry a team of 6-10 people to compete against other schools. They even bring in attorneys from all around the state as well as actual judges. The judge will control the case and there is also a jury made up of lawyers to score the case. The team with the most points wins.

They said it: “They run it just like a [real] court case so it’s really formal,” Club adviser Jason Duram said. “It’s really official and it’s just a really cool experience”
