WHAT HAPPENED

Last night, the varsity boys tennis team hosted a conference match against East Kentwood. Although the Bucs performed well, the recent illnesses and injuries left Grand Haven at a loss against one of their toughest competitors, falling 5-4. 

WHAT THIS MEANS

The loss is a minor setback for the Buccaneers in terms of downgrading a seed for conferences. Though the Bucs aren’t worried about this particular loss, they are training and hoping to get the team back to full health 

KEY PLAYERS

• Senior Noah Bachmann won with a score of 6-2 and 6-1.
• Senior Weston Taylor who won with a 6-2 and 6-1.
• Junior Ian Rant won 6-1 and 6-0.
• The doubles team of senior Carter Prieditis and Brayden Rowley won their two out of three matches 7-5 and 6-3. 

KEY MOMENT

This match was particularly significant for the Bucs, not just in terms of those who won their matches but as a learning curve going forward. Grand Haven’s moment last night was taking on one of their formidable competitors despite their lack of health. 

THEY SAID IT

“I’m looking forward to seeing how we match up against Hudsonville,” senior Noah Bachmann said. “Hudsonville has beat everybody in the conference and we are the only team standing in their way. We have the potential to upset them, but need 100% effort and focus from everybody to be able to pull it off.“
