The DECA club, otherwise known as Distributive Education Clubs of America, recently attended its regional competition on Jan. 7.

Because of the team’s success at regionals, members will now attend the state competition. These people include: Caleb Berko, Sydney Bylsma, Claire Cowman, Emily Dougherty, Coryn French, Annika Hauser-Brydon, Taylen Inthisane, Westin James, Myla Kar, Emma Laws, Delaney Lokers, Hannah Long, Erin Markovicz, Olivia Mc Donald, Marissa McManus, Liam Rappleye, Cole Rowden, Sophia Sanborn, Ellyn Skodack, Brendan VanderMeer, Holly Waite, and Sam Woitecheck.

States will take place March 5-7 in downtown Detroit.

DECA is a club where students work alone, in groups, or in pairs to simulate business marketing skills. It teaches students aspects of business that are not necessarily taught in school.

Junior Sydney Bylsma will be attending states. She is presenting an independent business plan with partner Ellyn Skodack.

“DECA has taught me a lot, most importantly how to give a professional press how to keep professional mindset and being confident,” Bylsma said.
