Girls Basketball loses after a hard fight to Rockford

WHAT HAPPENED:

The girls varsity basketball team was away at Rockford on Valentine’s day where they faced Rockford’s aggressive and lengthy players. Grand Haven was able to put up the first two points, carrying a neck-and-neck score with Rockford for the remainder of the first half with a score of 19-15. Although, the ladies were not able to rise up to Rockford’s defense and outside shooters in the third quarter, finishing the fourth quarter with a final score of 48-38. 

 

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN:

While the result of the game wasn’t in the Lady Bucs’ favor, at the very least the girls wanted the experience to compete and grow their skills before going into up and coming districts. 

 

KEY PLAYER:

  • Sophomore Zoe Spoelman was a strong force both on defense and offensively by chipping in several points for the team. 
  • Junior Avery Keefe lead the team defensively throughout the game.

 

KEY MOMENT:

The girls can undoubtedly say they started out strong and were neck-and-neck with Rockford for the majority of the first half, which played a key role in the close game outcome towards of the end of the game.

 

THEY SAID IT:

“I think the result was better than the first time we played them, but I don;t think it’s something we should settle for and just be happy with,” senior Jolee Houle said, “It’s definitely a game we could have won and we just let it slip from us.” 

 

What’s Next:

The Lady Bucs are home Tuesday, Feb. 18 against Grandville at 7:00 p.m.
