Q & A with former The Voice Contestant Tony Lucca

Q+%26amp%3B+A+with+former+The+Voice+Contestant+Tony+Lucca

From the time Tony Lucca was a little kid he has always had a passion for music. From the small screen to the big stage he has been there. Starting out on Disney Channel as a mouseketeer on the Mickey Mouse Club, to a top three contestant on NBC’s The Voice, Tony has always loved music. We talked with Lucca to try and find out just what makes him tick.

Q: How old were you when you Decided that you wanted to pursue music?

A: When I just, knew. That first moment, I couldn’t have been more than eight. But I had always been singing from the get go.

Q: When did you have ‘that’ moment? When you just knew you wanted to pursue music.

A: I was with my cousin, and his parents. They were like a duo. Before karaoke put those people out of business. Anyway they had to go to a music store one day and took me and my cousin with them. We walked in and saw a wall of guitars for the first time. And there was this like, blue glitter top lespaul. Or like a les knock off. It was up on the wall and I just wanted that guitar. Like, I’m gunna’ be a rock star. That ignited the whole thing.

Q: What music really influenced you?

A Around that same time I was really getting into Kiss. The sound of Kiss. And the look of Kiss. And the idea that you can get up in front of a crowd on risers, and be on the stage.

Q: What season were you on The Voice, and who was your coach?

A: I was on season two, so 2012. I was on team Adam.

Q: How did that change your outlook on music, and trying to become more famous?

A: You know, it didn’t really change it. It just added to it. It confirmed  a lot of things.  I had experienced a lot going into it. I say that comparatively speaking in comparison to the other contestants on the show. I grew up in front of a camera. I grew up on a sound stage. I grew up, you know answering questions. All of those things that give you a leg up on those types of things. I wasn’t naive as to how to play the game. Once your in there its a game.

Q: What was the takeaway?

A: The takeaway for me was the value of a well calculated risk. It taught me to think outside of your comfort zone. It was just basically Adam. He tried to  sell me on his particular brand of what he calls, Delusional Confidence. And his slogan is, you can quote me on this, it’s Adam Levine, ‘If it doesn’t make you at least slightly uncomfortable, it’s probably not worth doing.’ He backed me up by kind of sharing with me the story of Maroon 5. You know? Like basically, we could make another album like the last one, or do this. Become a coach on some singing competition, and profess to the world that “I have moves like Mick Jagger”, and if it goes wrong it is career suicide. But it didn’t. I hadn’t made those moves.  Adam taught me how to.
