Although she is known as a creature of few words in the movie, senior MacKenzie Trowbridge took stage as a sassy, powerful dragon in “Shrek the Musical”.  She came out of her comfort zone to bring a puppet being dragged across stage, to life.

Q: What did you like or not like about your role?
A: My role is a sassy women with a lot of character, thats what I liked about it. I got to rock it on stage The character also is kind of me, like my inner self a little, so I kwnd of get to just be myself on stage and I’m not self conscious that I’m doing it wrong or anything.

Q: Challenges as a singer
A: I had to add a lot of soul into my song and my character has a lot emotions running through her in her song; she expresses anger and she’s kind of depressed and lonely and then she experiences love so trying to fit all of that into this three minute long song is challenges.

Q: What did you expect
A: I was a little shocked. I didn’t actually believe I was going to get a main part. I went into the audition thinking I was gonna be another cast member like I have been in all of the other musicals so when I saw that, I was like, ‘Oh crap. Does that mean I have to sing by myself on stage? Can I? Oh my gosh!’

Q: How have you grown as an actress/singer from playing dragon
A: I’m definitely more confident in my singing. I finally know what I’m going to do in college and  I’ve just become more open, I think, with the possibility of making mistakes
