IMAGINATION AND INNOVATION: sophomore Cole Gavrilides constructs his dream house from his childhood Legos.

German III students wrapped up and presented an annual project this week. The “Traumhaus Projekt” encourages the students to design their dream house and explain it in German with a number of different adjectives to practice their speaking skills.

“I’ve been working on the ‘Traumhaus Projekt’ now for maybe a little more than 6 years,” teacher Rory Callendar said. “But it’s evolved and it wasn’t always a required assignment. I’ve really nailed it down I think in the past three years to what you see today.”

Students get to think outside the box with this assignment. In previous years, kids have modeled their houses with everything from paper and pencil to Legos and Minecraft. The creative liberties are nearly endless.

“Typically we do three sections of learning and then we wrap up the chapter with some kind of project,” Callendar said. “So students get that sense of like, we’re gonna do three assessments, one for each section and then kind of loosen up and have some fun with the project.”
