The boys and girls cross country team wrapped up their seasons this past weekend with strong performances at the state meet. The meet was held at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) and the temperature was hovering around 60 degrees.

The boys team made a great effort on a muddy course to pull together a solid 13th place finish in the Division 1 race to edge out Rockford by 2 points.

Jack Nicholson led the way for the team with his All-State performance finishing 13th individually. Nicholson was followed by senior Dominic Hentemann who finished 115th, and following almost immediately after senior Eric Johnson came in 120th. This was both of their third appearances at the state meet.

Junior Jack Nicholson looks to pass opposing runners during the state meet. Individually, Nicholson finished 13th overall, earning him All-State honors.

The girls cross country team also had a good showing at MIS finishing 12th overall as a team in Division 1 girls race where they finished as the top OK Red team.

Sophomore Gabby Hentemann came across the line first for the girls finishing 18th individually earning All-State honors for her second year in a row. Not too far behind Hentemann was senior Eliza Lowe finishing 46th running for her fourth year in a row at MIS.

Sophomores Kelsie Bovee and Abby Buitenhuis, along with senior Kirsten Prelesnik, helped secure the team’s placing with Bovee finishing 88th, Buitenhuis in 142nd, and Prelesnik in 146th.

Wrapping up the team finish was freshman Meadow White (158th) and junior Emily Mattson(167th).
