Senior Austin Fox leads the Bucs attack across into the offensive zone. He will be looked to as a key leader this season for Grand Haven.

What Happened: Grand Haven began their 2017-18 hockey campaign with a clash against Byron Center. The contest ended up not going in the Bucs favor, as they lost 3-2 in overtime. Grand Haven opened the game with crunching hits from the whole squad, finally drawing first blood after a breakaway goal by junior Trevor Kalis, who let the Bucs hang around with his aggressive play. Senior goalie Finn Bylsma also kept the hopes alive, stopping a lot of shots while in net.

They Said It: “It’s always a little too much for the new guys to take in on opening night, but they showed a lot of fight and upside,” junior Trevor Kalis said. “Everyone gave a lot of effort and that’s all you need to build on.”

What’s Next: Not a lot of time to rest for the Bucs, as they get right back at it with a home game today against Mattawan starting at 12 p.m.
