The Boys Bowling team seeks a conference win and to produce many state contenders this season as they try to return to the game without one of their star teammates, Jimmy Mitchell. Mitchell was named Muskegon Chronicle’s Player of the Year for boys bowling and the team will have a big gap to fill with him gone. However the team has lots of potential and a great set of skilled players to replace the silent hole in the crew.

We lost one of our best bowlers, Jimmy, last year,” said senior Logan Batka. “We still have the strength to come back from that and still have the strength to win conference, and to make it to states.”

The group of boys set their expectations high, and their hopes higher. As confidence clashes with cockyness, the boys always try to show up their opponent. One thing is for sure is that, they will be putting in the day-in day-out work to reach their end goal of that sweet conference gold.

“I like to show others up for sure, that’s a lot of fun,” said Batka. “Especially in areas like regionals or invitationals where people get medals for placing in the top 10 or top five.”

When it comes to battling tougher teams, the bucs like to step up and be as professional and perfect as they can in order to out-bowl their opponent. Arm swing, wrist training, and practice come into play as they attempt to be a top competitor in their district. Completing this will earn them credit as an intimidating and well rounded team that will be a force to reckon with for this upcoming season.

“We do drills to smooth out the arm swing,” said Batka. “We’ll act a lot more like perfectionists when we’re bowling tougher competition.”
