WHAT HAPPENED

The Grand Haven varsity boys soccer team fell to Hudsonville on Tuesday night 5-3. Down 3-1 at halftime, the Bucs got a quick goal to cut the deficit to one. However, Hudsonville responded mere minutes later with two goals of their own, all but sealing a victory for the Eagles. Grand Haven fired several shots at the net in the closing minutes, but only scored one of four they needed to win.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Hudsonville started the night atop the O-K Red Conference and is going to stay there after their win. Grand Haven will stay in the middle of the O-K Red Conference, still searching for their first elusive win.

KEY PLAYERS

  • Senior Max Jerosvek: The midfielder was all over the pitch throughout the night, netting two goals and several key plays to preserve field position.
  • Sophomore Emarrean Banks: The forward was an offensive catalyst for the Bucs, firing several shots on goal, including one that hit the crossbar, and converting one on a header.

THEY SAID IT

“We had our opportunities to score,” junior goalie Jack Kurburski said. “We’ve just got to keep the ball out of our net. It’s as simple as that.”

WHAT’S NEXT

Grand Haven travels to Rockford for an away contest on Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. The Bucs dropped the last contest 3-1 at home, so they will be eager to redeem themselves.
