All the reasons you should watch Beauty and the Beast

I’m telling you now, whoever you are, watch Beauty and the Beast. This classic was remade this year, and I will spend the next few minutes that you are reading this trying to convince you to watch it.

In case you are unaware of this film, here is the gist. A book loving beautiful girl, (played by Emma Watson, the most perfect girl to exist) sends her dad out to get her a rose, just as she asks every year. He gets lost, then finds a path to the beast castle. This castle holds a prince who was turned into basically a big dog with horns, talking furniture who was his guests at the same time he turned, and a single rose. When the last petal of that rose falls, the beast and all the furniture will stay that way forever. And here’s the Disney catch; unless someone falls in love with him.

Belle ends up trapped in this castle in place of her father. At first she is like anyone in this situation; scared but feisty about it. And this leads to reason one of why you should watch this; the kick butt heroine. Unlike most movies, Belle is no dainty little girl. Belle holds her own against the beast when he is unkind to her. Then as she falls in love, she pushes Gaston (the annoying antagonist) off of a wall. Instead of screaming, “help, I’m a girl who can’t do anything,” she takes matters into her own hands and protects her man. That’s something I can get behind.

But, if a lovable heroine still isn’t for you, let’s go into the love of Belle and the beast. Most Disney prince movies feature a charming prince with dashing hair and a beautiful horse. Of course the girl falls in love with that guy, he is flawless. But Beauty and the Beast challenges this by replacing it with a hideous creature. Belle falls in love with his personality and unexpected charm instead of typical looks. Now isn’t that what you want to show you children?

If that still isn’t sweetening the deal for you, we will go into how incredible the ‘guests’ are in this film. Each piece of furniture was blessed with its own sassy personality. Since each character was originally a high class french person in the mid-1700s, their characteristics still shine even while they are a clock or a coat rack. From a giggly chipped tea cup to a boisterous wardrobe dressing manly men into lowkey drag queens; you will be in adoration of them by the end.

Now if adorable characters doesn’t top the cake for you to see this masterpiece, maybe the antagonist will. Gaston, a hardcore narcissist, spends all of his time trying to get Belle (well all the time he isn’t staring into the mirror at least.) His intense “love” leads him to trying to murder the beast in the end. He even is so upset that Belle’s father will not let him have her hand in marriage, that he tries to murder him. You will not like Gaston, but he will make you feel a little better about your life decisions because at least you didn’t try to murder a helplessness old man.

You will not regret the 2 hours, and 20 dollars (depending on how you feel about movies and popcorn) you may spend indulging in this movie. Make your inner little kid happy, and go see a classic.
