Seniors Will McWatters and Teague Wilson faces openly reveals their surprise yet overjoyed emotions learning that the football team be moving on to playoffs.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Late Sunday night, the varsity football team huddled together in the LGI to watch the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) selection, broadcasting the selected football teams in Michigan who are moving onto playoffs. The team suffered through a nerve-wracking waiting period of almost an hour, but finally, the boys were rewarded with the announcement that Grand Haven is heading to the playoffs.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN:

With a 5-4 record this season, the boy’s fate was in MHSAA’s hands. They had to be selected in order to move on, and thankfully the Bucs’ scores were high enough to earn them a spot at playoffs. Meaning this is the first time the Bucs will be competing pass their seasonal scheduled games since 2011.

THEY SAID IT:

“We love work, we love putting in the work to beat the teams we have to beat,” senior Austin Broemer said. “We’re going to win some football games.”

WHAT’S NEXT:

The Buccaneers will travel to Grandville this Friday for the first round of playoffs with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
