Once thought to be closed for good in late 2022, Jumpin’ Java has swung back strongly into the Grand Haven community as of January 2024.
The idea to offer study time for students on Wednesdays was thought up by primary manager Laura Pearson and manager Fisher Mancilla a couple of weeks ago.
“We want the community to know we’re here,” said Mancilla. “So we thought a study hall would be a good opportunity to reach out to the community again.”
Through connections they made with former teachers and students, Mancilla and Pearson have been able to make known that the Jumpin Java is a place always welcome to the community.
“It’s fun to meet up with friends, get something to eat, get a drink,” Mancilla said. “(You) turn studying more into an event and less of a chore.”
The coffee houses’ goal is to create a peaceful and welcoming environment for students while they complete their schoolwork.
“We definitely try to keep it quiet and welcoming every time somebody comes in. We’re always super welcoming at the counter,” said Mancilla. “Hospitality is at the forefront of what we’re trying to do here. We just want that calm, collected, space, so they can focus, study, get their work done and not have too many distractions.”
