Trolls pulls heart strings of teenagers

Recently I was watching tv when a bright, cheerful commercial caught my attention. The commercial was for an upcoming movie. The movie seemed interesting, and different from the previously released movies like Doctor Strange and Shut In. So, my best friend and I decided to channel our childlike inner spirits, and took a trip to the Grand Haven 9, seated in theater 5, surrounded by overzealous nine year olds waiting for the newly released movie “Trolls.”

Trolls are happy, joyful creatures that like to sing, dance, and hug every hour. The Trolls are locked in a tree located in the center of Bergen Town. The Bergens, who are unhappy creatures, can only experience happiness when eating a Troll, which happens every year during their annual holiday. However, their yearly tradition was broken when King Peppy led his kingdom of trolls through tunnels leading out of Bergen town. At this point of the movie is where things started to catch my eye and I really started tuning in.

After twenty years living Bergen free, the trolls have the biggest, loudest, and brightest, celebration. Which attracted almost every troll in the town, and an unexpected visitor. Princess Poppy, voiced by Anna Kendrick, takes off on a wicked expedition, accompanied by Branch, voiced by Justin Timberlake. When sitting in the movie theater, I was embarrassed. Going to watch “Trolls” isn’t what most 17 year olds do on a Friday night, but sitting in the movies I realized that it wasn’t just about singing and hugging every hour, but the movie hit important lessons of everyday life.

The movie was more mature than expected, it teaches the viewers that looks aren’t everything, and everyone has problems they don’t talk about. I really enjoyed the movie, for the fact it made me feel like a kid again. It’s very different than the usual movies I watch, it’s nice to not hear a movie that swears every other word. It’s safe to say, my best friend and I both agreed we were glad we went.

It might not seem like any high schoolers forte to go see a PG animated movie about trolls but I guarantee once you’re there, you’ll thank yourself you went. Through the twists and turns of the trolls being captured, and nail biting moments wondering what will happen next, the ending was my favorite. The Trolls were, well…you’ll have to see for yourself.
