Who is your favorite musical artist?
They’re a punk band from the 90’s, they’re still around, but the name is Rancid. I’d say my favorite album from them is “And Out Come The Wolves.”
What is your biggest pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve would be chewing sounds and smacking lips, that stuff drives me crazy.
What are you doing when you’re out of school?
Right now I’m working on my master’s degree, so if I’m not in school, I am working on homework. But when I’m not doing that I have a five-year-old daughter, so I’m spending time with her.
How long have you been teaching or working in schools?
In 2015 I was an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State, and then I was working in an alternative high school in Grand Rapids. So I would say like, probably three or four years at this point when you kind of look at it all over.
Where did you go to high school?
I lived in Colorado first, so I went to a place called Fruita Monument High School. And then when we moved here I went to Grand Rapids Christian High.
Have you always wanted to be a teacher or work in education?
When I was a teenager, probably not. It was only when I was in college and kind of after college was when I really got the bug to go that route. Part of the reason I joined the national guard was because I needed money to go back to school to get my teaching certification.
What do you bring to the table?
I have a lot of life experience, I’ve worked as a diesel mechanic and I’m still currently serving the national guard. I’ve traveled, like, moved a lot. So I have a lot of life experience that I feel is beneficial just to be able to understand students and give them good advice for going to college and stuff like that.
What is your proudest achievement in life?
I think graduating college was one of those. Thats something that, if you would have asked me in high school if I had gone to college and graduated, I probably would have said no. So that was a really really big thing for me, and then also going through basic training.
