Students not putting phones in the cell phone caddy.
What are you doing when you are out of school?
Out of school, I love to draw comic strips. I love Batman but also superhero comic strips. I like to take walks. Grand Haven is a great place to just walk around.
How long have you been teaching in schools?
Two years. I got a job at the school where I was student teaching in Grand Rapids. I taught there for a year and then when Mr. Tarr retired over here, I applied and got the job.
Where did you go to high school and college?
I graduated from Grand Haven High School and then went to Grand Valley.
Have you found something more difficult than you expected transitioning to GHAPS?
Parking is crazy here. On my first day I left at about seven o’clock and I got here about 7:15 a.m.
Have you felt accepted at GHAPS?
Yes. I have a lot of old teachers who are super supportive.
Have you always wanted to be a teacher?
Yes, I have.
What does your typical planning hour look like?
I try to get ready for the day’s classes. This year I have first hour prep so I spend after school cleaning up from the previous day and then try to have some plan for the next day. Then I come in during the morning and cut paper and put slides together.
What is your proudest achievement?
My dad is a math education professor and we did a comic book about math. Like a haunted house, but the big hauntings and the weird happenings are based on math concepts, and we got picked up by a math publisher.
What do you enjoy the most about working at GHHS so far?
I have a lot of amazing colleagues.
If you could do anything on your weekend what would it be?
Go to space.
Three things to a desert island?
Tablet to draw with, an infinite power source for the tablet and access to drawing apps.
