Andrew Belsito is a new Premier sub at Grand Haven High School. Premier subs stay in the building and cover for teachers who get sick at the last minute or cannot find a sub.
How long have you been teaching?
Nine years plus one year of student teaching.
Where did you go to high school and college?
I went to Grand Rapids Catholic Central for high school and college at Michigan State.
Have you found something more difficult than you expected transitioning to GHAPS?
Not really, however being in a sub role, every day is unexpected.
Have you felt accepted at GHAPS?
The students are still getting to know me but yeah.
Have you always wanted to be a teacher?
I started thinking about it seriously in high school as a student, but it’s the main thing I gravitated toward.
What is your proudest achievement?
I have successfully climbed 36-37 mountains. I also was an instructor for a 26-day backpacking expedition.
What do you enjoy the most about working at GHHS so far?
The students and staff. I’m still getting to know all the different staff members so it has been fun to meet them and talk with them.
Who is your favorite musical artist?
I have a very eclectic music taste; I like Cage the Elephant, Young the Giant, Reo Speedwagon, Lord Huron, First Aid Kit, DMX, Mumford and Sons, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Bowling for Soup.
What is your pet peeve?
People who spit on the ground.
What are you doing when you are out of school?
Depends on the season, I like to hike, bike and cook.
Three things to a desert island?
Food, water and shelter.
What’s a bucket list item for you?
I’d like to backpack to New Zealand.
