How long have you been working in schools?
Just over a year. I had been working in a factory for 30+ years and I wanted to try something new. I had an opportunity to work at a private school for autistic children and I fell in love with it.
Where did you go to high school and college?
I went to Grand Haven High School when it was in the Lakeshore building and no college.
Have you found something more difficult than you expected transitioning to GHAPS?
No, it has been super easy.
Have you felt accepted at GHAPS?
Absolutely.
Have you always wanted to be a teacher/work in education?
Not always, I was a production supervisor for many years and it was comfortable until I switched to education.
What sets you apart from other educators?
I have a lot of patience, understanding and love.
If you could change one thing about your curriculum, what would it be and why?
I think our curriculum flows really well and I wouldn’t change anything.
What is your proudest achievement?
Raising my three daughters, who are 35, 34 and 23.
What do you enjoy the most about working at GHHS so far?
The kids. Seeing the differences between all the kids and what makes them unique to themselves is awesome.
Who is your favorite musical artist?
Journey.
What is your pet peeve?
Hearing people chew.
What are you doing when you are out of school?
In the summertime, on my boat and during the school year grocery shopping.
Three things to a desert island?
My boat, my family and my pets, two dogs and three cats.
What’s a bucket list item for you?
I would like to travel more, specifically to the Mediterranean.
