The newly formed American Sign Language Club will host its first meeting from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23 in room 3106. The meetings will take place every other Thursday. Sophomore Searra Schroeder is the president of the club.
“I always thought that ASL should be one of the required language courses, just because a lot of people are deaf and it’s cool to be able to communicate with deaf people,” Schroeder said.
At normal meetings, members will be learning how to sign the alphabet and how to spell out words. There may be a special guest to help teach the language.
“Anybody can join, just people that actually want to learn,” Schroeder said. “For a plus side, it’s kind of fun to talk to your friends across the classroom without actually talking.”
