On Wednesday and Thursday, Grand Haven High School hosted the district band and orchestra festival where many groups earned straight ones. Students from both middle school and high school performed two prepared songs and went through a sight reading test.
“Our kids performed to the best of their ability,” band director Ian Novoselich said. “We are very happy with the results.”
The scoring is a number based system, one being the highest possible score. Grand Haven’s Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and Wind Ensemble all received straight ones. Symphonic band scored a two and Concert Band performed only for comments due to the time crunch.
“Everybody performed wonderfully, including the orchestras,” Novoselich said.
