Winter weekend festivities

With Winterfest 2015 now upon us, there are dozens of activities taking place downtown this weekend. Here is an overview and description of the top 5 events for students to participate in.

Friday, Jan. 23:

Art Reception

Located at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum Akeley Building from 6:30-8 p.m. Enjoy free refreshments while checking out all of the art from the Winterfest Photography participants.

Intergalactic Human Sled Race

Registration opens at 7 p.m. before the 8 p.m. race start time. Round up a team of six people; four pullers (people pulling the sled), one musher (driver of sled) and one rider. The race will take place down First street.

Saturday, Jan. 24:

Cardboard Sled Races

Construct a creative sled to race at Mulligan’s Hollow. Registration and sled inspection opens at 10 a.m. Sled Judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the races following at 11 a.m.

Winterfest Bonfire Bash

A great place to warm up during Winterfest is in Harborfront parking lot from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be more than ten fire pits right downtown not to mention music, movies, fire jugglers, and the Long Johns Run.

Sunday, Jan. 25:

Snowboard and Ski competition

No better way to finish up Winterfest than the snowboarding and skiing competitions. Competitions will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Mulligan’s Hollow Ski Bowl. There will be slopestyle and giant slalom. It is open to all ages and contestants get free entry with their lift tickets.
