Morning accident in school parking lot, Devries reminds students to drive safely
October 5, 2017
A three car accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in the school parking lot.
“It appears that one of our students was heading into school and was trying to make a left hand turn into the parking lot…[the individual] did not see the vehicle coming in the opposite direction, he pulled out in front of her car causing the crash,” Deputy Ryan Devries, said.
In the midst of this accident it sent another car flying forward and ended up hitting the car originally trying to make a left hand turn. Thankfully, no students or parents were harmed during the crash. The morning’s accident is being categorized as classic as it can be: an accident, due to the weather.
“I truly believe this morning didn’t have anything to do with speed. I believe it had a lot to do with weather.” Devries said. “I simply believe that he just didn’t see the car. I mean, I think it’s just your classic accident where he missed the car… if you put in all those elements of glare, lighting, spitting rain, you miss the vehicle and [the individual] made the left hand turn in front of her.
As a reminder, Devries, is constantly reminding kids to drive carefully in the mornings, due to tiredness, nearsightedness and even if you’re going to be late for school, don’t be going 70 down US-31, the deputy is usually camping out somewhere. Normal standardized measures will be taken and handled accordingly in regards to the students.
