Spanish 5 class creates altar for El Dia de los Muertos
The Spanish 5 classes created an altar to celebrate the Mexican holiday El Dia de los Muertos or the day of the dead.
Every year, on Nov. 2nd, the students choose to honor a person who has passed by making an altar. This year they chose to honor former supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed in 2020.
“It’s the idea that she and her memory will live today and we will think about what she contributed,” Spanish teacher Penny Johnson said. “We make the altar in her honor and it has traditional Mexican things on it but also some things that will represent her. There’s a gavel and I am having them bring her favorite foods as well as a drink.”
