Connor Maliesky and Allison Paradise in the cafeteria to advertise the new art club coming to the high school. The program is called Unleashed and will take place at the high school starting on Oct. 28.

Grand Haven High School is partnering with a company called The Epicenter to start a club called Unleashed focused on creative self-expression. Each session will span two weeks with eight meetings in total. The meetings will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the high school in room 0150 with teacher Kasey DeSmit.

The initiative is being led by Connor Maliesky and Allison Paradise of The Epicenter as a way for students of all ages to get outside of their headspace and do self-reflection as a way to further personal growth.

“[Our goal is] building confidence and connection, said Paradise.

The company has worked with Grand Haven before, setting up Encounter the Arts and the Grand Haven Community Art Night. They also have a program over in Detroit, Michigan working with a foster program to run similar events.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for students to express themselves, said junior Kari Taylor.
