A tradition that has been going on for over 20 years, Spirit Week is a fun and exciting way to get students and staff in a cheerful spirit for the holidays. Each day leading up to Christmas break, there is a fun theme for students to dress up in. From Dec.11 to Dec.22 there are going to be students and staff alike dressing up in their festive clothes.
There’s going to be two weeks of fun outfits to kick off the holiday season. The first spirit week started in 1952; it was known as friendship week, to welcome back students to the school year. Each year, this tradition is celebrated in fun, unique ways.
A competition is held between the grades, and during the academy, the teacher counts how many freshmen to seniors are in their festive attire. Whichever grade has more points comes out on top and wins the Spirit Week title.
“It’s just kind of a way to keep students engaged, and we want people to end the semester right. It just brightens the mood a little bit and just makes everything more festive,” Brian Williams student Senate adviser said.
