Grand Haven High School students are encouraged to show off their Halloween Costumes on Thursday, Oct. 31. However, principal Tracy Wilson urges students to be mindful of the Halloween dress expectations that have been put in place.
According to Wilson, a full ban on any depictions of weapons, as well as a prohibition on permanent masks has been established. In addition, students will be expected to adhere to typical dress code policies.
“Costumes, unlike Spirit Day attire, are a huge distraction during the school day,” Wilson said. “So the big thing is we need to be able to continue with education.”
According to Wilson, costume dress code violations have never been a prominent issue at Grand Haven High School. Students are encouraged to have fun and be safe while remaining mindful of the expectations.
“We’re not the younger buildings where they can take a full day or half a day out,” Wilson said. “We’re a credit-bearing level and everything counts for credits and graduation requirements.”
