What Happened: The first game of the season was a successful one for the Lady Bucs who trumped Traverse City West 43-31 on Thursday. Several players scored for the Buccaneers – led by senior Taylor Craymer’s 12 points. Craymer got off to a slow start but heated up in the second half. Junior Amanda Merz also helped carry the scoring load with 10 points. Senior Mallory Beswick had 6 points and sophomore Hanna Rinkevicz added 4 points and 6 rebounds. The balanced team effort by Grand Haven was ultimately too much for the Titans to overcome.
The Hot Hand: Merz was aggressive from the tip, scoring 8 of the team’s 11 points before the midway point of the first quarter.
They Said It: “Without all these girls on this team we wouldn’t have gotten the win,” junior Amanda Merz said. “Everybody was knocking down shots. Everybody was a huge player in this game.”
On Deck: The Lady Bucs host Traverse City Central at 7 p.m. Friday night.
Key Contributors: 1. Craymer, 2. Merz, 3. Beswick.
