Boys Basketball

Record: 5-8 (overall) 2-4 (O-K Red)

Key Player: Senior Adam Abraham has been a hard worker and force in the lane all season. Abraham averages 8.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Quote: “We started out not really knowing what we were capable of, but I think we’re really finding our team right now.” – Junior Lukas Steffel

Key Moment: The Bucs stormed back from a 11-point fourth quarter deficit vs. Hudsonville and won 60-54 in overtime on Friday, Jan. 30.


Girls Basketball

Record:  2-4 (O-K Red) 5-11 (overall)

Key Player: Senior Amanda Merz leads the team in points, scoring 17 Feb. 10 against Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

Quote: “We have improved so much since the start of the season. We’ve gotten a lot closer and understand each other and how we all play.” – junior Courtney Hylok

Key Moment: The Bucs beat conference leaders East Kentwood 45-37 at their game on Jan. 31.

 Hockey

Record: 3-12-1 (overall) 0-5 (O-K Red)

Key Player: Senior Matt Nalley leads the team with 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) through 16 games thus far.

Quote: “I mean its going well,” senior Matt Nalley said. “We’re coming together as a team in the final session of the year. We hope we can win a few more games before the season is over and hopefully beat Rockford first round”

Key Moment: The Bucs had a tough game against Grand Rapids Christian that ended in a 2-2 draw on Feb. 2.


 Bowling

Record: 3-3 (2-3 O-K Red)

Key Player: Sophomore Jimmy Mitchell was 11 points shy of a perfect game at Hudsonville Lanes last Saturday and has given consistent solid performances all season.

Key moment: The Bucs overcame a 19-point deficit against Rockford at the Baker Invitational to win by 1.

Quote: “It’s been a good year and we’re gonna finish strong,” sophomore Jimmy Mitchell said.


 Boys Swimming

Record: 0-2 (O-K Red)

Key player: Sophomore Hayden Schouman is currently the fastest sprinter all around and excels at every stroke he does.

Key moment: In a race on Jan. 22, freshman Grant Ruster was behind in the 200 yd. IM but he pulled ahead to beat Grandville’s number one swimmer.

Quote: “I feel like we are going to kick some you know what in conference,” junior Cole Kramer said. “We are going to taper well with our coach and all our new freshman.”

 Competitive Cheer

Key Player: Senior Kelsey Bialowas is a consistent member of the squad and has become a leader among her teammates.

Key Moment: The Bucs took first place at a home competition against Spring Lake.

Quote: “I think we are the better this year than we have been before,” senior Allison Berger said. “I definitely think it is the new coaching staff.”


 Boys Ski

Key Player: Senior Jack Leitner has dominated the meets and is a key contributor to the team as well as being a leader.

Quote: “We’ve been doing pretty good and I think we might make it to state,” junior Cody Gust said.

Key Moment: The boys took fourth place at Caberfae Peaks in the Giant Slalom.


 Girl’s Varsity Ski Team

Key Player: Senior Hannah Landman qualified for state at the regional race on Feb. 11 located at Crystal Mountain. Landman had her best times of the season with 59.08 seconds in slalom and 40.26 in giant slalom

Quote: “Our team has really become close-knit this year and very supportive of one another on and off of the hill,” junior Ali Gust said. “We improve every race and our competitiveness has definitely shown this year and it is our time to prove that.”

Key Moment: The girls took fourth place for the giant slalom and the slalom at Caberfae Peaks on Friday, Feb. 6


Wrestling

Record: 25-3 (overall) 6-0 (O-K Red)

Key player: Senior

Quote: “I think that as a team we have been doing everything that is expected,” sophomore Bryan Batten said. “If we just keep doing what we are doing good things will happen.”

Key moment: The team dominated the O-K Red conference tournament on Friday, Feb. 7. The Bucs had five individual first placers, Seniors Antonio Reyes, Evan Johnson, Camden Bertucci, Aaron Cummings and Nick Mulcahy. The team earned a total of 194.5 points to edge out runner-up Grandville who came in with 185 total points.
