Girls varsity basketball finds identity, defeats West Ottawa 41-29

February 1, 2016

What Happened: The Lady Bucs took on the Rockford Rams last Friday, Jan. 22, and suffered a tough loss by five points. But the Bucs bounced back on Jan. 27, and defeated the Grandville Bulldogs in a close battle 30-26. The team found their identity on offense, after falling short in recent O-K Red conference competitions they finally strung together the game they needed to get back on their feet resulting in last Friday’s win where they defeated the West Ottawa Panthers 41-29.

Key Player: Freshman Allison Keyser lead the charge with 14 points and four assists sparking the Lady Bucs victory against Grandville.

They said it: “The win felt great, we needed a win after having so many close games,” Keyser said.  “A win is always an award for hard work. And we definitely had to fight last night. Fighting the battle of their defense and having our shots not fall was a climb but we did it and pulled it off,”

“We’ve been in a few close games recently and have fallen short,” junior Andrea Shumaker said. “We needed to start stringing wins together. We really turned the corner last night and proved to ourselves that we are competitive in the O-K Red. Putting four quarters together and winning a close game puts us in a really good frame of mind,”

Up next: The Bucs host the Hudsonville Eagles at the Pirates Pit this Friday, Feb. 5.
