What Happened: The Buccaneers traveled to West Ottawa came out victorious against the Panthers, winning a chippy and hard-fought game 2-0. Previously in the season, the Bucs had tied twice against West Ottawa, but through a strong defense Grand Haven was able to fend off the black and silver squad.

They Said It: “The effort we put into the game helped us win,” junior midfielder Jack DeKlyen said. “At the beginning of the game the nerves got to us. We knew they were a good team. We started slow but settled in and we started to find our chances to put one in. After that we really started playing a lot harder.”

Shoutout to the Crowd: DeKlyen credited the Buccaneer faithful as a huge factor in the win. “Just a big thanks to the student section for showing up,” he said. “[They] made the game that [much] more intense and helping us get the win.”

What’s Next: Grand Haven ventures back to West Ottawa to play again, but they play Hudsonville. The game is on Saturday Oct. 21.
