Girls basketball team cruises to victories in back-to-back games

Junior Anna Strom goes up for a lay-up against Traverse City Central on Friday night, which was the first of two games in two days for Grand Haven. The Bucs only allowed a combined total of 22 points this weekend.

What Happened: Friday night Grand Haven took on Traverse City in their season and also home opener, defeating the Trojans in a blowout 55-10. Junior Alli Keyser paced the Bucs with 19 points and 10 steals, while junior Esther Byington chipped in an all-around effort with four points, three blocks and six rebounds. The Lady Bucs then returned to the court Saturday afternoon to play Traverse City West. They easily beat the Titans 49-10. Keyser led again with 16 points and three assists, followed by senior Sophie Maraini who had seven points, five rebounds and five steals

They Said It: “I think we played really well,” junior Anna Ackerman said. “We tried out our new press and it worked really well for us and we ended up with a lot of steals from that. We are taking it one game at a time and trying to get better.”

What’s Next: Grand Haven travels to Muskegon-Oakridge to play the Eagles on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
