Slow start doesn’t hold back Bucs from defeating the Knights

The team comes together after scoring the first goal against Kenowa Hills in the second period. That goal got the offense going for the Bucs, netting two more after that.

What Happened: Grand Haven kept the win and shutout streaks alive as they emerged victorious, slaying the Kenowa Hills Knights 3-0. The Bucs started off slow offensively, not scoring in the first period of play, but their hard-nosed defense made up. It wasn’t until the middle of the second period when Grand Haven struck first with junior Ethan Pennington netting a tip-in goal. The Bucs didn’t look back from that point on, scoring two more while not letting the Knights offense get into a rhythm. Through all of this, the Bucs stay hot and senior Finn Bylsma has now not let through a goal in two straight games, playing lights-out in net.

They Said It: “We worked hard the whole game and never gave in,” junior Kyle Eveland said. “They made a charge in the second [period] but we just kept fighting.”

Up Next: Back to work on Saturday, Dec. 23 for the Bucs, as they host Bay Reps in what should be a barn-burner of a matchup.
