2018 Winter Olympics: Results from Feb.16

Notable American Results: As day seven of Olympic competition comes to a close, the Norwegians are holding their first place spot, standing with 22 medals, followed by Germany with 17 and Canada with 15. The United States currently stands at fifth place in medal counts with nine. Surprisingly, John-Henry Krueger took home a second place spot and silver medal in the men’s short-track speed skating event, the first at these games. Men’s hockey however, was a different story. The Russians shut out team U.S.A. by a score of 4-0

 

Other Key Results: Slovakia took home a gold medal in the biathlon race. Anastasiya Kuzmina won the event by 18 seconds. In the Skeleton, Lizzy Yarnold of Britain won a gold medal, defending her skeleton title. The women’s cross country team from Norway was also able to pull out a victory after their disappointing fifth place finish at the last winter games. Women’s short-track speed skating went to the home team, South Korea as Choi Minjeong was able to come away with a victory in the 1500m. In men’s figure skating, Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu won gold and it was his second consecutive gold medal, the first figure skater to accomplish that since Dick Button did it at the 1948 and 1952 games.

 

What To Watch For: On Sunday, Feb.18 look out for a possible medal event for the United States in curling, and freestyle skiing.
