Juniors Tyler Degram and A.J. Koster return the ball in a match against East Kentwood. Being seniors next season, Degram and Koster will have to fill the shoes of the senior leaders from this season.

The boys varsity tennis team finished off this season with a 7-6 record. Led by seniors Noah Bachmann and Weston Taylor, the squad looked to capitalize off of that veteran core.

“I think we had a tremendous season with the fact that we had 13 injuries,” senior Carter Prieditis said. “There was a time when we had seven guys out and we had to pull three guys up from JV. We came through in big sections when we easily could’ve lost.”

How a team adapts to adversity could have either strengthened or ruined their season, but the squad overcame and continued plowing their way through the year.

“I think our most memorable moment was when we beat East Kentwood,” Prieditis said. “The three doubles were the last ones on the courts, and it was the tiebreaker. We won in the last two points of the tiebreaker. We overcame adversity there because we also had two players out that day.”

As the seniors head out to graduate, the group will look to up and coming underclassmen like for leadership next season.

“I think with the hard work that these seniors, juniors and upcoming juniors have put in we’ll be looking pretty good next year,” Prieditis said.
