What Happened: The Girls Rugby team played Grandville this past Tuesday, Oct. 11. The Buccaneers lost 3-45.

What This Means: The team has a 1-1 record. They’ve only had two official games, but also played two scrimmages.

Key Players: Sophomore Leilany Teasley was nominated as player of the week by MLive for her athleticism in the Buccaneers previous match against Berkley. Teasley was also nominated as “Player of the Match” by Grandville because she was able to prevent the Bulldogs from scoring tries. Sophomore Veronica Sidor and senior Sophia Strauss were also recognized by Grandville because of their intensity and smart rugby play. Both players had powerful runs as well as hard tackles made on defense.

They Said it: “I didn’t really know what to expect, but everyone’s really welcoming and supportive. If you don’t know what you’re doing, the coaches will help you. You really learn a lot from the first few games.”

-Sophomore Ava Volovlek

What’s Next: The Buccaneers will play Sparta-Rock at home Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1:00 p.m.
