Drake drops unexpected mixtape
Rapper Drake surprised the music industry on Feb. 12 when he released a 17 track album without warning
February 19, 2015
I was scrolling through my Twitter feed just past midnight last Thursday – a usual occurrence, especially when I can’t sleep – when I had to do a double take. Then another double take, and another and another.
My eyes weren’t deceiving me. Award-winning rap artist Drake shockingly released a 17 track mixtape with no warning signs besides an overlooked 15 minute YouTube video, “Jungle” posted earlier that day.
The new product, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late”, is still under speculation as to whether it is an actual studio album or solely a mix tape to hold fans over until the long-anticipated release of Drake’s fourth studio album, “Views from the 6”.
Nonetheless, fans shouldn’t worry about what exactly “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” is, rather they should simply enjoy the gift from Drizzy. Being entertained by it won’t be difficult with tracks like “Energy,” “10 Bands,” “Know Yourself” and “You & the 6” headlining as the newest and hottest songs.
The Toronto MC shows off his abilities to deliver his typical lyrical punches and addicting hooks. He is especially arrogant and poignant with his bragging this time around. All this is wrapped up in an impeccable assortment of banger-beats and delivered to fans with a bow on top.
Drake’s surprise album shot to top of the BillBoard 200 last week (as it should have). The project sold upwards of 500,000 units as of Feb. 15, less than a week after it’s release.
“If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” is available now on iTunes and Soundcloud for $12.99.
