A student grief support meeting was held yesterday after school. The meeting’s purpose was to check up on students who have still had trouble coping with the losses faced in the past couple years.

“We have been hearing from a lot of teachers and staff people that there are a lot of people really, really struggling,” social worker Emily Berry said. “It’s not surprising to us because we have had so much loss for various reasons at the high school.”

Only a few students showed up to this particular meeting but Berry plans to send out a survey in order to get a better feel on whether a regular meeting is needed.

“The goal of this particular meeting was to get a feel of how many kids needed more time to process,” Berry said. “In the past, when there’s been a death, it’s pretty powerful to have a smaller group of kids.”
