Katy Perry releases another catchy pop song
February 27, 2017
Katy Perry released a new song Feb. 21 with the title “Chained to the Rhythm.” The song features fellow artist Skip Marley and has a mellow but fast beat.
At first listen, this song doesn’t really seem to have much meaning to it. It’s the typical pop song that has repetitive lyrics and simple background meant to make the song easily stuck in your head. I’d say it’s effective in doing so as after listening to the song, it was all I could think about for about an hour.
After looking closer at the lyrics, I found I was right about the song being repetitive. The chorus is repeated five times in total, as well as many occasions where she repeats the same word twice in a row.
It’s safe to say that past Katy Perry songs are much better than this one, and this is mostly just an attempt to put herself back in the Hollywood light. Perry seems to mashing up songs by throwing in the catchy lyrics of “California Girls” and the beat of “The One that Got Away.” It doesn’t work, and I hope that she comes out with better songs in the future.
