Have you ever wanted to acquire more in-depth knowledge on a certain historical event? History Day will give students that opportunity. History Day is a competition where students pick a topic, research it on their own, and build a presentation around it, to compete against other students, and the best projects advance. This year’s theme for the competition is rights and responsibilities in history. Jason Klinger, a substitute teacher and volunteer, will be coordinating it
“History Day is a competition for students who are interested in historical research,” Klinger said. “It’s kind of like Science O for history enthusiasts.”
Anyone interested in joining the competition should narrow down their research topic by the middle of October. The first competition will be around the end of January. Students interested in joining should talk to Klinger, and can also get help from their classroom history teacher.
“Anyone who enjoys history or enjoys research or wants to learn the sorts of skills that they’ll need to do research in college, it’s great for them,” Klinger said. “It’s really great for AP students, but it’s not just for AP students. There are certainly freshmen who would do very well at it and probably get more out of it.”
