Lake Michigan Credit Union is offering eight $2000 scholarships to high school students. The scholarship asks the question, “how has social media helped or hindered social interaction?” To enter the student or their parents must be a member of the credit union. The essays should be turned into student services by January 4, 2014.
“Our goal is to provide a topic that will cause students to think on a deeper level about something that is important to them and then translate those thoughts into a passionate piece of creative writing,” Credit Union manager Rick Schaap said.
Essays should be 750-1000 words, typed and double spaced. The credit union offers the scholarship every year to help give student’s post high school education a head start.
“We have a committee that meets in June to review the previous topics and determine one that is relevant to the 17-19 year age group,” Schaap said.
