The Loutit District Library is doing a youth outreach, with the help of free pizza. On Jan. 21 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., the library will host a teen idle hour in their Program A room in the basement of the library.
“This event goes back 100 years and this year is the start of the library’s 100th year,” Loutit District Library’s head of Youth Services Allison Boyer said. “It wasn’t very well attended when it started out way back when and we are looking to change that. We want this to be a safe, fun place for teens to come and just, hang out.”
Each month the teen idle hour has a new theme. Jan. 21 will be a day to chill out and eat some free pizza. During the hour, teens will be able to share ideas about what they would like to see from the teen idle hour in the next year, as it occurs every month.
“This is a chance for the teens to give their input,” Boyer said. “They know what they want more than I do. Anyone with any background and any interests are welcome whether they have come before or not. It’s always fun to have new people join.”
