Drake surprise drops single “Scary Hours,” steps back into spotlight
Drake’s recent release of two songs within his new single Scary Hours has brought him back into the spotlight.
“God’s Plan” is the more radio-friendly of the two, having a classic Drake-sound in which his flow stays pretty basic and the lyrics are perfect for fake-deep twitter. However, the beat is catchy enough to earn a spot on your party playlist. There’s a few seconds that the Canadian rapper goes acapella with the lyrics
“She say, “Do you love me?” I tell her, “Only partly” / I only love my bed and my momma, I’m sorry”
and it’s the only moment of excitement during the track.
The second song “Diplomatic Immunity” feels more like a spoken word, taking the form of one long verse without a chorus.
On the track, he reflects on the music industry’s exclusion of him when speaking of black excellence, his brief 2017 romance with J-Lo and the various tensions between him and other artists. Drake even takes a direct shot at Joe Budden and DJ Akademiks, two hosts on Complex’s show “Everyday Struggle,” a show in which Budden typically ends up enraged at any artist enjoying their own life.
The surprise drop of these two songs within the single lead some to question if Drake is planning on dropping an album soon.
