Girls volleyball defeats Rockford in close game

WHAT HAPPENED: The Buccaneers took on a fierce competitor in the O-K Red, the Rockford Rams. Despite the large crowd and loud environment, the team came out victorious. Even though the Bucs were often neck and neck with the Rams, the encouragement and communication never ceased. In between matches, both the middle school and young bucs volleyball programs and coaches were recognized. 

KEY PLAYERS: 

  • Ashley Slater consistently wowed the crowd with her dizzying spikes and finished the game with 16 kills. 
  • Sophie Boeve had a solid game with 48 steadying set assists and lead the team with composure despite controversial calls. 
  • Mackenzie Gross sent several powerful spikes ricocheting off the hands of opponents and had an impressive 20 digs. 

THEY SAID IT: 

With the district competition nearing, junior Mackenzie Gross commented on the improvement of the team throughout the season.

“We definitely started out as the underdogs, we have a lot of juniors and two sophomore middles,” Gross said. “So we did look like the underdog team, but we did rise up and rise fast.” 

UP NEXT: Next Tuesday the Buccaneers will play East Kentwood at home. It will be senior night and all seniors on the team will be recognized.
