Boys basketball takes down Grandville in home conference match-up
January 22, 2020
Last night, the boys basketball team took on the Bulldogs from Grandville in a game of runs. The Bucs took home the victory 50-40 with senior Owen Ross leading Grand Haven scorers with 14 points.
It was a slow start to the game given the squad didn’t score their first points until seven and a half minutes went by in the first quarter. This sparked the team as they didn’t look back to that slump and kept on running.
“We truly wanted it more than the other team,” senior Will McWatters said. “We worked as a team and got the job done. We scrapped for loose balls and played solid defense all game.”
All of those factors helped the group end their losing streak in O-K Red play. Continuing to play with intensity will be imperative to make a run at the conference championship and the playoffs later in the season.
“We need to practice like we play day in and day out and this was a great win,” McWatters said. “But we want more and I think that will really push us to work harder every day in practice to be the best team heading into the playoffs.”
The team’s next match-up sends them to Caledonia to take on the Fighting Scots on Friday night with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
